The Violet Township Fire Department was recently notified that it has received two federal grants, the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER).  The total amount received for both grants is $1.22 million.

The AFG will allow the department to install a diesel exhaust extraction system in Station 592 located at 8700 Refugee Road.  This system will eliminate the diesel fumes when our trucks leave or enter the station thus making a safer environment for our firefighters and visitors.  The amount received is $68,000.

The SAFER will allow the department to hire three (3) full-time members and add one person to each of our units.  This additional personnel will enhance our staffing model and provide some flexibility as to how we respond.  This grant covers the first three (3) years of their salaries and benefits.  The amount received is $1.15 million.

As Fire Chief, I want to thank our personnel for their continued hard work and dedication.  I also want to thank our community for your continued support.  We are proud to serve you as our “Friends for Life”.
