Roads & Engineering
The Violet Township Road Department is responsible for maintaining over 101 miles of roadway. This is accomplished using a combination of full and part-time employees, based out of the Township Maintenance Facility, and performing under the direction of the Township Engineer.

Road maintenance activities consist mainly of snow removal, crack sealing, street resurfacing and pavement striping. Other departmental responsibilities include mowing within the Township right-of-way, and storm drainage evaluation, including culvert replacements, within the right-of-way. Furthermore, two parks and seven cemeteries are maintained by Road Department personnel.

The Road Department, under the supervision of the Township Engineer, uses a fleet of five dump trucks and two pick-up trucks. Additionally, a rubber-tired backhoe, track-mounted Bobcat, front-end loader, lowboy trailer and two large mowing tractors are utilized in the department's activities. Parks and cemeteries are maintained using a combination of riding and walk-behind zero-turn mowers.

A road survey and evaluation is conducted annually to assess pavement remediation and to provide recommendations to the Board of Township Trustees. Sign and culvert inventories are also performed by Road Department personnel.
