Building Department

The Violet Township Building Department is a State Certified Department in Residential and Commercial Classification. This allows the Township to better serve unincorporated area of our community.

The Building Department provides professional, plans review and inspection services utilizing full time review personnel and inspector along with contract inspectors as needed to address issues and process permits in a timely manner.

The Building Staff provides service to approximately 30 square miles of the unincorporated area of the Township. All of the Inspectors and Plans review personnel are State certified and maintain their certifications by attending state approved continuing education classes. The Staff remains on call to answer any questions that you may have at 614-575-5559.

WHAT TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION REQUIRE A PERMIT IN VIOLET TOWNSHIP?

Please contact the Building Department at 614-575-5559 if you are unable to determine if a permit is required for your project. It is far better to understand that your project does not need a permit, than to find out too late that it did. The list below is an attempt to be inclusive, but may not address every instance of required permitting.

Residential Construction

o New Single Family Homes
o Accessory buildings, including:
o Detached garages
o Sheds
o Pole Barns
o Gazebos
o Other Accessory Buildings
o Additions, alterations or renovations to Buildings
o Decks
o Porches
o Swimming Pools & Hot Tubs (above ground, in-ground, outdoor, indoor, inflatable, etc.)
o Exterior Slabs (patios, etc.)
o Fireplaces
o On-site private well and septic systems (obtained from Fairfield County Health Department)
o Fire/Security detection systems (alarm owner's permit from local law enforcement agency and installer's permit)
o Sidewalk (new, replacement, driveway widening, sidewalk program, new driveway approach, approach replacement)

Commercial Construction

o Commercial Structures: both new and alterations and additions to existing structures
o Signs, including:
o Wall mounted signage
o Ground or free standing signs
o Awning or canopy signage
o Face replacement
o Subdivision Signage (either temporary sales sign for entire subdivision or permanent entry sign)
o Billboards and other outdoor advertising structures

Parking Lots

o Telecommunications Towers & Antennae
o Fire Suppression Systems:
" Sprinkler systems
" Hood suppression systems
o On-Site well and septic systems if public services are not available (obtained from Ohio EPA)

Residential/Commercial

o Major electrical work (residential/commercial, addition/alteration, replacement/repair, temporary service, new service, hot tub, mobile home service)
o HVAC/Refrigeration Systems
o Plumbing: new or changes to existing plumbing system
o Fire /Security detection systems (alarm owner's permit from local law enforcement agency installer's permit)
o Certificates of Occupancy
o Demolition, removal of structures

Right-of-Way Permits

o Any work requiring digging within the right of way to include but not limited to the following:
o Culverts
o Curb installation and replacement
o Sidewalk installation and replacement
o Drainage tile installation in right-of-way on Township road right-of-ways
o Driveway approaches, installation or replacement

Other

o Transfer switches
o Generators
o Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control (DESC) is required with your initial building permit on all residential and commercial construction
